Alternatives to the best-known AI visibility tools
If you are evaluating Profound, Peec AI, Otterly, Rankscale or AthenaHQ and looking for another option, here is what actually differs — and where none of them is the wrong choice.
Conflict of interest, before anything else: vilnux is the tool I build. This page is written by a competitor of the five it compares, and it should be read knowing that. So it carries no superlative without a figure behind it, no one else's prices, and it says plainly where another tool fits better.
Why people look for an alternative
Almost always for one of three reasons: price, language, or trust in the number. Rarely features.
Worth working out which one is yours before looking at any table, because each leads somewhere different. If it is price, the answer is a smaller plan. If it is language, the shortlist collapses. And if it is that you do not trust the number, the criterion stops being what it measures and becomes how it measures.
Alternative to Profound
Profound is among the widest in engine coverage. If you need that coverage, the honest alternative is to stay with Profound.
Its site advertises tracking across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Claude and Grok — six engines, two more than us (read 3 Sep 2026). It is built for teams measuring global brands in English, and we do not compete there.
Where there is a conversation: if you measure a Spanish-speaking market, much of that coverage does nothing for you; and if your doubt is how reliable each percentage is, the question to ask Profound —and anyone— is how many times it repeats each query and whether it publishes the margin of error.
Alternative to Peec AI
Peec AI is European and its site advertises ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, with a free trial (read 3 Sep 2026).
It is the closest comparison of the three: four engines like us, and European origin. The real differences sit elsewhere — in whether the panel and the questions are thought in Spanish from the start or translated, and in whether each figure carries its sample size.
Alternative to Otterly.ai
Otterly advertises the most engines of these first three: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, AI Overview, AI Mode and Claude, with a free trial (read 3 Sep 2026).
It is also the one that appears most in Spanish-language AI answers, according to our own measurement of the sector — despite not being a Spanish tool. A useful reminder that showing up in the answers and fitting your case are two different things.
Alternative to Rankscale
Rankscale advertises 17+ engines —including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, AI Overviews and AI Mode— across 240+ countries (read 14 Sep 2026).
On engine and country coverage it is well ahead of us, and if that is what you need there is no point swapping it for something with less. Its site does not advertise a free trial. The useful conversation with Rankscale, as with anyone, is the questions below: how many times it measures each question and whether it gives the margin of error.
Alternative to AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ advertises 11+ platforms —ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral— and a free plan with credits (read 14 Sep 2026).
Its site places multi-region and multi-language support on the Enterprise plan. If you measure a Spanish-speaking market on a small-business budget, ask which language the questions are written in on the plan you are buying, not the top one.
What to ask any of them, us included
Five questions that separate a tool from a good-looking dashboard, and that no sales page answers on its own.
- How many times does it measure each question? These engines are noisy: across 269 questions asked three times in a row to the same engine, in 12 of the 27 cases where the brand appeared at all it did not appear all three times. A single pass cannot tell a real rise from a coincidence.
- Does it publish the confidence interval and the number of observations? A percentage without its margin looks firmer than it is.
- Does it explain how it measures? If it does not publish that, you cannot check anything it tells you.
- Does it exclude questions that already name your brand? They give presence by construction and only inflate the figure.
- What happens when the engine changes? In August 2026 Google AI Mode cut the citations it gives by 67% and eleven brands lost a third of their visibility in the same week having done nothing. If your tool does not tell you, you will go looking for a mistake of your own that is not there.
These are developed, alongside others, in how to choose an AI visibility tool, deliberately written without brand names.
What we answer
Four engines —ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and Copilot—, every question measured every week and the figure computed over all the passes in the period, a Wilson interval on every figure and the full methodology published.
And the rest of the answer, so it can be checked: the panel and the questions are thought in Spanish from the start, not translated; the research is published with its sample and with what it does not allow you to claim; and when an engine changes behaviour, the report says so with its date and source instead of letting it look like your brand fell.
Where we do not fit: if you need Claude, Grok or eight-engine coverage in English, we are not your tool today and there is no point pretending otherwise.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best alternative to Profound?
It depends why you are looking. If you need broad engine coverage, do not look for one with fewer: Profound advertises six (read 3 Sep 2026), and Rankscale and AthenaHQ more than ten (read 14 Sep 2026). If what you need is to measure a Spanish-speaking market and know the margin of error on every figure, that is a different problem with different answers — vilnux among them, and we say that as an interested party.
Which AI visibility tools measure in Spanish?
Most of the well-known ones are designed in English and translate. The useful question is not whether the interface is translated but whether the questions sent to the engine are written the way a Spanish customer would write them, because that is what decides whether the measurement resembles your market.
Why do you not publish the other tools’ prices?
Because they change every few weeks and a wrong price for someone else is worse than no price: whoever reads it will decide on a false figure, and we would be the ones benefiting from the error. The criteria we compare do not expire, and every third-party figure carries the date it was read on their site.
How many engines do you need to measure?
More than one, certainly: two engines answering the same question share between 4% and 13% of the sources they cite, and between ChatGPT and Perplexity 6 out of 10 comparisons share no domain at all. Beyond that, which ones matters more than how many: the ones your customer uses.
Can you try it without a card?
With vilnux you can audit any URL free and without signing up. Otterly and Peec advertise a free trial (read 3 Sep 2026) and AthenaHQ a free plan with credits (read 14 Sep 2026); the sites of Profound and Rankscale do not advertise one, which does not mean they have none — it is what we could verify.
Do I lose my history if I switch tools?
Usually yes: switching provider starts a new series, and the old numbers are not comparable with the new tool’s because each one measures with its own questions and method. That is why it pays to choose for what you will need six months from now. Before leaving, export everything you can.
